Parkersburg : West Virginia

Parkersburg is a county seat in Wood County. The community was named after settler Capt. Alexander Parker. The city is known as "The Savings Bond Capital of America".

Parkersburg lies at the confluence of the Ohio and Little Kanawha rivers and covers a total area of 31.6 km² (12.2 mi²) of which 30.6 km² (11.8 mi²) of it is land and 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.19% water.
Parkersburg is the third largest city in West Virginia, behind Charleston and Huntington and is also the largest by population of three principal cities. The average temperature in July is 38 degrees while that in July is 85 degrees. Parkersburg receives an average annual rainfall of 42.2 inches.
