Introduction A city in the Panhandle, Weirton is situated in Hancock County. The community was named for the Weirton Steel Corporation.
The City of Weirton is nestled among the hills of the Ohio River Valley bordering Ohio to the west and Pennsylvania to the east. The city covers a total area of 49.9 km² (19.3 mi²) of which 46.3 km² (17.9 mi²) of it is land and 3.6 km² (1.4 mi²) of it (7.22%) is water.
The city has the famous Weirton Steel Company, the 8th largest integrated steel producer in the nation.
